CARE INSTRUCTIONS
High-quality materials, while durable, have limitations when exposed to certain chemicals and aggressive treatments. These may cause damage and reduce performance. Proper care helps preserve the textiles, keeping them soft, flexible, and long-lasting. It maintains high performance, extends the product's lifetime, and keeps it looking great for years. Please follow the care instructions responsibly to ensure the warranty conditions remain valid.
Defects or damage caused by improper washing, ironing, or drying that does not follow our instructions will not be covered under the warranty. If you are unsure about a care process not outlined in the instructions, it is best to avoid it.
Every Hillman product comes with specific care instructions, typically provided on the care label inside the garment or footwear. Please read these instructions carefully to ensure the best performance and longevity of your product. If you are unable to access or read the care label, follow the general care instructions outlined below.
GENERAL CLOTHING CARE
Products with Membranes
HILLMAN garments with waterproof membranes should be washed at 30°C on a gentle spin cycle. Close all zippers, Velcro, and straps before washing. Avoid powdered detergents, fabric softeners, stain removers, and bleach, as these degrade membrane performance. Always hang-dry garments in the shade.
Cotton
To maintain the color and shape of cotton garments, turn them inside out or place them in a pillowcase before washing. Button shirts fully to retain their shape.
For best results, iron cotton shirts while damp, or use a steam iron if dry. Always follow the care label instructions.
Fleece
Turn fleece garments inside out before washing to prolong their lifespan. Wash at 30–40°C on a gentle spin cycle and hang-dry. Avoid tumble-drying, but if necessary, use the lowest heat setting.
Do not iron, steam, press, or dry-clean fleece. Avoid using bleach or fabric softeners.
Leather
Leather is a natural material that requires regular care to ensure durability and performance. If leather becomes wet, wipe it clean with a damp cloth and hang it to dry at room temperature. Avoid drying near direct heat or sunlight. Always follow the care label instructions.
Merino Wool
Merino wool is a natural fiber with unique properties. Wash in cold water or use a wool cycle on your washing machine. Avoid detergents containing enzymes. Instead of frequent washing, airing wool garments is an effective alternative. Follow the care label instructions to maintain quality.
Bamboo Viscose
Bamboo viscose is soft and eco-friendly, requiring gentle care:
- Washing: Wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with mild liquid detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners.
- Drying: Air-dry flat or on a hanger. Avoid tumble-drying, but if necessary, use low heat.
- Ironing: Use a low-heat iron or steam to remove wrinkles.
- Storage: Store folded in a cool, dry place to prevent stretching.
FOOTWEAR CARE
Outside Care
- For boots with regular laces - remove laces before cleaning.
- Remove dirt using a brush under warm running water.
- Air-dry footwear upright at room temperature, or use a shoe dryer. Avoid direct heat sources such as sunlight, radiators, or stoves.
- Apply care products to leather when it is nearly dry for better absorption.
Inside Care
- Remove dirt and stones from the inside and air-dry.
- Clean the interior with a soft sponge and warm water; avoid hot water, which can damage leather lining.
- Footwear without membranes dries faster when stuffed with paper. Avoid paper for drying footwear with membranes.
- Remove the footbed, clean it, and let it air-dry before reinserting.
STORAGE
Store footwear at room temperature in a well-ventilated, dry area. Avoid storing:
- On heated floors
- Near open fires
- In direct sunlight
- On radiators or similar heat sources
ADVICE FOR OPTIMUM COMFORT
- Start your day with dry footwear for the best experience.
- Avoid wet or loose trouser legs, as they can transfer water onto your footwear.
- Prolonged standing in water may cause leather footwear to absorb moisture. Minimize exposure to maintain durability.
WHAT NOT TO DO
- Do not wash footwear in a washing machine.
- Do not dry footwear lying down or under pressure; always dry it upright.
- Avoid drying footwear in poorly ventilated areas, such as plastic bags or humid places.
- Do not expose footwear to direct sunlight, which can dry out and crack leather.
- Avoid drying footwear near heat sources like open fires, radiators, or heated floors.
- Do not use soap, as it damages the protective layer.
- Avoid contact with fuels, oils, waste liquids, manure, and salt water. If exposed, rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
